Despite earlier optimism that FC Barcelona’s upcoming La Liga match against Girona might take place at the Spotify Camp Nou, the club has now officially confirmed that the game will be played at the Estadi Lluís Companys in Montjuïc.
Meanwhile, significant progress continues at the Camp Nou site. According to Mundo Deportivo, the construction of the stadium’s third ring has already begun, with two new sections of stands being installed above the VIP boxes in recent days. This marks the start of a new and crucial phase in the stadium’s extensive redevelopment.
At present, the club’s main focus is on obtaining the first occupancy permit for Phase 1A, which would allow around 27,000 spectators to attend matches at the Camp Nou.
However, Barcelona’s return plans have been slightly adjusted. Instead of reopening after Phase 1A, the club now intends to return only once the Phase 1B license is secured, expanding the allowable capacity to approximately 45,000 spectators.
Construction company Limak had initially forecasted obtaining the licenses for Phases 1A and 1B by mid-September, followed by the 1C license by mid-October. The 1C phase would open both the first and second tiers, raising the stadium’s temporary capacity to around 62,000 seats.
Once the first two tiers are completed, the ongoing construction of the third ring will add more than 40,000 additional seats, bringing Camp Nou’s total capacity to around 105,000 spectators, the number planned for the fully renovated stadium.
