Former New York Giants star quarterback Eli Manning made an interesting claim about Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter during Monday Night Football earlier this week.
Speaking on the Manningcast, Eli Manning stated that Hunter did not practice offense during his time at Colorado, playing under Deion Sanders.
“I talked to [Jaguars coach] Liam Coen. They said, ‘You know, when he was at Colorado, he practiced zero with the offense,’” Eli Manning relayed. “He only practiced defense. And they just kind of had a special system where they had signals. The coach would just signal the formation to him and then signal the route to him.
“So he just improvised, just went out there and winged it as a receiver. So he’s still learning, right now, how to be a receiver. … So for now, they want to work him at receiver, get those reps."
Manning was passing along what he was told by Jaguars head coach Liam Coen, but according to Deion Sanders, Coen lied, leading to Eli Manning also lying.
“That was a lie,” Deion Sanders said during his press conference on Tuesday. “Travis Hunter played offense and defense – we started out with the 1s offense going for the first four or five reps. Then he went over and played defense the next four or five reps. And he did it the whole practice."
Sanders went on to say that former Cowboys star and current ESPN analyst Troy Aikman was given the same information about Travis Hunter.
However, instead of reporting it on the broadcast, he called Sanders to clarify.
“You know, Troy called me before the game, and he got that information. Because he had the same misinformation that I gave him the truth,” Sanders said. “I don’t know why people lie. Why do they do that kind of stuff?"
Travis Hunter caught three passes for a career high 64 yards against the Chiefs, helping the Jaguars pull off the upset.
