Manchester United have endured a difficult start to the 2025/26 season. Despite clear improvements in both their style of play and on-pitch commitment, the results have been inconsistent.
One positive for Ruben Amorim, however, was that his team arguably produced their best football under him in the 2–0 win over Sunderland just before the international break. The Red Devils looked dominant and fully deserving of their victory over the newly promoted side.
In that sense, the timing of the international break could not have been worse. Just as United appeared to be building momentum, their rhythm was disrupted, and Amorim will know he must rebuild that momentum from scratch ahead of the clash with Liverpool.

While things continue to develop on the pitch, off it, the club remain active in the transfer rumour mill. According to [Fichajes](https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/premier-trae-120-millones-fichar-raphinha-20251007.html), Manchester United are preparing an enormous bid to sign Barcelona attacker Raphinha.
The Red Devils are reportedly ready to offer between €120 million and €150 million for the talented Brazilian. Raphinha established himself as one of the best players in the world with his performances last season.
At one point during the 2024/25 campaign, Raphinha was even considered a potential Ballon d’Or contender. He eventually finished fifth in the final rankings—a result many felt underestimated his achievements.
Raphinha is a versatile forward who can operate comfortably on either wing and has also excelled as a number 10. In Amorim’s system, he could fit into any of the attacking roles and even function as a wing-back on either flank.

However, the Brazilian is one of Barcelona’s most important players and serves as one of the team’s captains. Adored by the Blaugrana faithful, he is among Hansi Flick’s first names on the team sheet. There is therefore little reason for the Spanish club to consider selling him.
Furthermore, Raphinha’s history with Leeds United, one of Manchester United’s fiercest rivals is unlikely to sit well with the fanbase. The suggested price tag also seems excessive for a 28-year-old, regardless of his quality.
For now, it is best not to read too much into this rumour. It remains to be seen whether there will be any real progress regarding United’s interest in Raphinha in the coming months.
