Harry Maguire is now in the final year of his contract, with Manchester United having already triggered their option to extend his deal by a further 12 months last season.
Currently it’s only Maguire, Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia and Tom Heaton set to leave at the end of their contract next summer, with both Maguire and Casemiro currently playing big roles in Ruben Amorim’s squad.
As such, it’s no surprise that despite interest in Maguire from Saudi Arabia, The Red Devils are keen to retain their key defender as the club rebuild their squad under the Portuguese manager.
Having bought themselves some breathing space with the 12-month extension, United are now ready to enter formal negotiations with Maguire and his camp over a new cotnract to stay at Old Trafford.
Now, The Sun has reported that no only have discussions begun, but a deal is expected to be agreed by the end of 2025.
It’s understood that Matt Hargreaves, Manchester United’s director of football negotiations, has begun discussing a new contract with Maguire’s representatives, with the general feeling that it won’t take long to come to an agreement.
With Harry Maguire recently joining Ruben Amorim’s leadership group, the Red Devils are keen to keep his experience at Old Trafford, especially with the centre-back still putting in vital performances on the pitch.
Recently it was reported that Maguire would be keen to stay at Carrington and continue his United career, however The Red Devils may look to reduce his salary, which has already fallen to £140,000 per week after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League in May 2024.
Whilst no details have emerged as of yet regarding the details of the new contract, it’s hard to believe that Maguire would part ways with The Red Devils, given his desire to remain at Old Trafford.
