The Green Bay Packers will have one of their best players back on the field soon.
Wide receiver Christian Watson has cleared all of the hurdles in his recovery from a knee injury, and he’s back at practice.
Nevertheless, just because he can play, that doesn’t mean the team needs to rush him.
Green Bay writer Wes Hodkiewicz recently urged the team to err on the side of caution with the oft-injured speedster.
“That’s where the Packers must be cautious and pragmatic about how they approach Watson’s looming return. The goal is to have him on the field in November and December. Any October games would be a bonus, but you gotta keep the main thing the main thing,” Hodkiewicz wrote.
Easing Watson back into action seems wise, considering that Watson has a long history of injuries.
He is as talented and physically suited to play the position as they come, but he can’t seem to stay on the field.
Watson has admitted that, more than putting up big numbers, he was looking forward to shaking off the rust and being fully healthy and comfortable in his return.
Fortunately, the Packers have plenty of weapons to work with while he gets his legs back under him.
Jordan Love’s connection with Watson is more than evident, and they shouldn’t need a lot of reps to get back in sync.
The Packers harbor Super Bowl aspirations and need to think about the long run and the playoffs.
As such, there’s no need to put their talented pass catcher in harm’s way or in a position to get injured again before the most crucial parts of the season.
