Manchester United have received a Bryan Mbeumo boost during the October international break.

The Cameroonian arrived at Old Trafford from Brentford this summer for £65million, plus £6m in add-ons. The forward, who scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season, has made a positive start to life under Ruben Amorim with two goals and an assist so far across all competitions.

Mbeumo has been a regular in the league, having played 90 minutes in all but one fixture so far in 2024/25. The 26-year-old is currently away on international duty with Cameroon, where he has continued his fine form.

The ex-Troyes star came off the bench to score against Mauritius in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday. Mbeumo only played 13 minutes in his country's 2-0 victory, with Reds goalkeeper Andre Onana, currently on loan at Trabzonspor, keeping a clean sheet.

News of Mbeumo's goal and his limited minutes will be music to Amorim's ears. Having one of his few good performers not being overly exerted can only be a positive for United's under-fire head coach, while the fact Mbeumo got on the scoresheet in his short stint on the pitch is a bonus for his confidence too.

Amorim will now be hoping that one of his star attackers comes through unscathed in Cameroon's next match - a clash at home to Angola on Monday. United will want Mbeumo to return fit and healthy for the Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, October 19.

However, whatever happens during this international break, United will know that Mbeumo is almost certain to be involved in the Africa Cup of Nations, which begins in late December.

Amad and Noussair Mazraoui are also set to participate in the tournament, which runs from December 21 to January 18.

Mbeumo has recently argued that Amorim's controversial 3-4-2-1 formation at United is not to blame for the team’s problems as they continue to struggle under the Portuguese.

The Reds earned a much-needed 2-0 win at home to Sunderland before the international break, but currently sit 10th in the top-flight and were knocked out of the League Cup by Grimsby Town.

“It’s a little different for me,” he told Sky Sports. “I’ve played this system in the past as well.

“Obviously, we hear a lot of things, but it’s our responsibility to find the good things and to be better. I don’t think there is anything about this system, it’s just us and improving in certain areas.”
