The Eagles could be without star defensive tackle Jalen Carter Thursday night when they play the Giants at MetLife Stadium and they will definitely be without three-time Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson.
Carter, for the first time this week, showed up on the injury report Wednesday with a heel injury and was listed as questionable for the game against the Eagles’ NFC East rival. A second-team All Pro last season, Carter has been dealing with a shoulder injury/stinger since training camp, but the heel is a new injury.
The former first-round pick out of Georgia has missed just one game in his career because of injury. He was out with an ankle injury in Week 6 as a rookie in 2024 against the Jets and the Eagles lost the game after a 5-0 start.
With Moro Ojomo and Jordan Davis, the Eagles do have capable replacements for Carter, but their depth on the inside of their interior line is one of the team’s greatest strengths. Byron Young and Ty Robinson are the other two defensive tackles. Young has played 79 defensive snaps this season, but Robinson has only played three.
Dickerson had been listed as out of practice all week with an ankle injury that he sustained Sunday during the Eagles’ loss to the Denver Broncos.
He has been dealing with a series of injuries this season, but he had started every game. He played opening night against the Dallas Cowboys just two weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery. He left the opener with a back injury and did not return, but was back for the Eagles’ Week 2 game against Kansas City.
Brett Toth will make his third career start (his first since 2023) in Dickerson’s place. Toth filled in for 11 offensive snaps on opening night and played 49 snaps against the Broncos. This will be just the sixth time in 83 games (counting the postseason) that Dickerson will not play.
Backup tight end Grant Calcaterra is also out with the oblique injury that knocked him out of Sunday’s game against the Broncos. This will be just the third time in four seasons that he has missed a game. Backup tight ends Cameron Latu and Kylen Granson are both core members of special teams, so they will be available Thursday.
Running back Saquon Barkley (knee), linebacker Jihaad Campbell (biceps) and Young (triceps) were also listed on the injury report this week, but are healthy enough to play against the Giants after being full practice participants Wednesday.
Linebacker Nakobe Dean, who is trying to return from major offseason knee surgery, was also a full practice participant, but he was listed as questionable for the game.
The Giants ruled out wide receiver Darius Slayton (hamstring) and listed starting right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor (back) as questionable.
