Former Oldham Athletic defender James Tarkowski has signed a two-year contract extension with Everton.

The 32-year-old defender, who is a product of Latics' youth system, has penned a deal to 2028.

Tarkowski first joined Everton on a free transfer from Burnley in 2022, was named vice captain of the club in 2023 and has so far made 128 appearances for the Toffees.

Tarkowski began his professional career at Boundary Park, signing a scholarship in May 2009 and making his first team debut in January 2011 against Brentford before establishing himself at centre half.

His performances led to a move, ironically to Brentford, in January 2014, later joining Burnley two years later, going on to earn two England caps.

Speaking to Everton's club media about signing his new deal, Tarkowski said: "I'm super excited and proud to be an Everton player and to continue this journey.

"I've loved every minute so far of working under the manager (David Moyes). He has made it clear where we're going with this club. The results and performances have really improved in his time here and it does seem to be going in one direction.

"The reason I've signed is because I want to be a part of that."
