Bucs Have 2 Key Players Return But Other Starters Out On Injury Report

The Bucs had a walkthrough practice on Wednesday for the second week in a row as they have a banged up group. It was a mixed bag of who was in and who was out for Tampa Bay.

The biggest storyline of the day was that cornerback Zyon McCollum was seen wearing a sling and not participating in practice. We later found out that this actually happened a week ago and it’s really just about managing a pain tolerance. Wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr. also did not participate on Wednesday and was listed with a fibula injury. Head coach Todd Bowles said earlier in the week that Godwin was likely just sore after playing in his first two games after an 11-month hiatus.

Some good news was had for the Bucs and cornerback Jamel Dean was a limited participant, as was safety Christian Izien. Dean missed last week due to a hip injury and Izien has been out since Week 4 because of a quad issue. Izien missed Week 1 for a separate injury and made his season debut in Week 2. He exited Week 3 and has been out ever since.

With McCollum’s status in question and Benjamin Morrison likely not playing, Tampa ay could really use Dean and Izien. Already a starter, Dean’s importance is fairly obvious. But with Izien, his versatility to play in the slot is of great value to the Bucs as it would allow them to move Jacob Parrish to outside corner and play Izien in the slot.

There will be some options for Tampa Bay should they choose. And for the first time for what feels like all season long, they’re not as injured as their opponent. Despite having extra time off with playing over a week ago on Thursday, the 49ers have way more players on their injury report than the Bucs do, surprisingly.
