Harry Maguire is set to snag a brand new contract with Manchester United, as per reports.
The 32-year-old is into the final year of his deal at Old Trafford, but discussions are currently underway with regards to a renewal as a result of impressing in his individual performances. It is said that Maguire's representatives has held initial talks with Matt Hargreaves - United's director of football negotiations.
While the centre-half saw a one-year extension triggered by the club in January at the wishes of Ruben Amorim, it is unknown as to whether Maguire will see a raise on his current wage of £140,000 weekly, especially given how Manchester United have operated as a team in recent seasons.
The club could only manage a dismal 15th-place finish in the Premier League standings last term, and missed out on Champions League football as a result of losing the Europa League final in a 1-0 loss at the hands of Tottenham in May.
And despite Amorim receiving a wealth of backing from the board this summer, splurging more than £200million on the likes of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, United have endured a patchy start to the new season as well.
The side clinched just their third win from seven games against a newly-promoted Sunderland at the weekend, handing the Black Cats a 2-0 loss thanks to goals from Mason Mount and Sesko. But losses against Arsenal, Manchester City and Brentford have posed questions with regards to how United will fare week in, week out.
United also suffered an embarrassing Carabao Cup exit at the hands of League Two's Grimsby Town in August to add insult to injury. It comes as Maguire was promoted as part of a six-man leadership group by Amorim this summer.
While Bruno Fernandes remains club captain, Amorim has created a cohort of senior players to help guide the team both on and off the pitch, in a bid to promote a better atmosphere in the dressing room and operate to the team's strengths.
Joining Maguire in the group are Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, Noussair Mazraoui and Tom Heaton. Speaking about the set-up this summer, Amorim said: "We have a leadership group now.
"It's not just Bruno. It's not just Harry. It's six guys now. They are responsible for the group. There are some things that in the last year I had to deal with.
"I said to them in this year, you deal with that. Small issues are with you guys. You are responsible. All these small changes, I think it's helping the group.
"We have Bruno, we have Licha, we have Harry, we have Diogo, we have Tom and we have Nous. So it's not just the oldest one. Nous is in the group because he's a character that I like.

"And I try to understand the dynamic of the group. Try to reach every space. They are the guys that are responsible to keep everyone in line."
United are currently enjoying a two-week international break as the Premier League is put on hold. They will return to action come Sunday, October 19 when they travel to Anfield to face bitter rivals Liverpool in the Northwest derby.
