The Philadelphia Eagles are looking to bounce back from their first loss since last December and beat the New York Giants in an NFC East showdown on Thursday night.
Here are five stats that will matter when the Eagles take the field at MetLife Stadium.
41%: Saquon Barkley’s rushing success rate sits at 41%, ranking 39th out of 44 qualifying running backs. Per Pro Football Reference, a successful rush gains at least 40% of yards required on first down, 60% of required yards on second down and 100% on third down. Any way you slice it, Barkley has not been able to get rolling.
59.6: The Eagles’ Pro Football Focus run-blocking grade sits at 59.6, ranking 17th in the NFL. Since 2021, the Eagles’ PFF run blocking grade has finished every season fifth-best in the league or better. There’s time to figure it out. But the offensive line has held Barkley back — and it won’t get easier without injured All-Pro guard Landon Dickerson.
5.3: The Giants are allowing 5.3 rushing yards per attempt, ranking 29th in the NFL. So there’s hope that Barkley will finally have his breakout game of the season. New York is particularly poor against outside runs. Kevin Patullo should dial up more of those for No. 26.
40%: The Giants’ defense uses man coverage 40% of the time, the third-highest rate in the league, according to PFF. Like there were in the first half against Denver, there should be plenty of opportunities for Jalen Hurts to target A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith on Thursday.
8: Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has scrambled eight times in his first two starts. The only QBs who scrambled more in Weeks 4 and 5 were Josh Allen and Justin Fields. Without Malik Nabers and now Darius Slayton, expect Dart to be on the move.
