Celtics basketball is back for the first time in months as they opened preseason play Wednesday in Memphis. While they didn’t play all of their regulars, it was clear who was their best player in their preseason opening win over the Grizzlies.
Wednesday’s night’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game goes to Jaylen Brown for a stellar performance. The Name to Know Player of the Game is sponsored by John’s Sewer and Drain Cleaning, the Name to Know when your drains don’t flow.
The Celtics blew out the Grizzlies 121-103 on Wednesday in Memphis as they easily cruised to the victory. Brown led the Celtics with 21 points in 20 minutes on 6-for-13 shooting, including a 6-for-8 showing from the free throw line. While Brown had offseason knee surgery, he didn’t have any issues in his first live game action of the season.
Brown enters an important year as the Celtics’ top guy as he’ll be featured at the top of every scouting report on a nightly basis. Jayson Tatum is sidelined indefinitely as he rehabs from his Achilles injury, so in the meantime, Brown is the guy. He looked every bit his All-Star self as he rested the second half.
The Celtics tinkered with lineups while resting some of their top guys, including Payton Pritchard, Anfernee Simons and Neemias Queta. In the meantime, other rotation hopefuls got their ticks in, showing off some nice things over the course of the victory. But it’s just one preseason game as the Celtics continue meshing as a team.
For now, the Celtics will take the victory going forward. They have a quick turnaround as they face the Raptors at 7 p.m. Friday in Toronto.
