Man United owner issues statement amid links to Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner

Man United have been linked with Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, amid this tough run of form for current boss Ruben Amorim.

Oliver Glasner has become one of the Premier League’s most revered managers after this strong start to the 2025/26 season, following on from Palace’s successes last time round.

Despite Crystal Palace’s 2-1 defeat against Everton last time out, which saw a club record 19-game unbeaten run come to an end, the Eagles remain in 6th place of the Premier League table.

And Glasner looks set to guide Palace on an exciting and prolonged European tour this season with Crystal Palace opening their Conference League account with a win over Dynamo Kyiv last week.

But amid the positivity, Glasner is being linked with the Man United job as Ruben Amorim’s future becomes unclear.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe backs Ruben Amorim at Man United

Despite links to Glasner, Man United’s minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has backed Amorim, suggesting that he’ll give him three years in charge, as the Portuguese approaches his first year at the helm.

Speaking on The Business Podcast, Ratcliffe said: “Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. Yes. That is where I would be. Three years. Because football is not overnight. It’s three years. You also look at [Mikel] Arteta at Arsenal. He had a miserable time over the first couple of years.

“We have to be patient. We have a long-term plan. It isn’t a light switch. You can’t run a club like Manchester United on knee-jerk reactions to some journalist who goes off on one every week.”

In 50 games as Man United manager, Amorim has won only 20 of those, making for a 40% win rate which is the lowest of any permanent Man United boss since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013.

Oliver Glasner’s Premier League record v Ruben Amorim’s

The future for Glasner is far from clear. His contract at Selhurst Park expires next summer and whilst owner Steve Parish is keen to secure Glasner’s future, it’s understood that neither party are in an immediate rush to do so.

On top of that, it’s reported that Glasner’s dream job is Bayern Munich, not Man United: it might even be surprising if Glasner were to drop what he has at Palace to take on Man United who sit in 10th place of the table right now.

Nonetheless, Glasner is on his way to becoming one of the top managers in Europe, and his record in the Premier League with Crystal Palace proves so…

Games Wins Draws Losses Goals Points PPM

Amorim’s PL record 34 10 7 17 41:53 37 1.9

Glasner’s PL record 58 23 20 15 89:70 89 1.53
