Coming off a wild Week 4 tie with the Green Bay Packers, the Dallas Cowboys (and their fans) had far less stress in Week 5, as America's Team cruised to an easy 37-22 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.
Before giving up 16 points in the fourth quarter, when the outcome was already decided, the Dallas defense looked as good as it has all season. But despite the solid effort from Matt Eberflus' unit, it was the Cowboys' high-octane offense that once again stole the show, specifically in the second quarter as Dak Prescott & Co. put up 20 points, 13 in the final minute alone, to put the game out of reach by taking a 23-3 lead into the break.
And as an added bonus, Javonte Williams and Ryan Flournoy made a little franchise history in those first 30 minutes, as Sunday marked the first time since 1978 that the Cowboys have had a 100-yard rusher and a 100-yard receiver in the same half of a single game.
Wait, what?
Javonte Williams and Ryan Flournoy combined for 212 yards of offense in the first half of the Cowboys' win over the Jets
Okay, so let's break that bit of news down just a touch further. This is what came down from the Cowboys' official Public Relations feed on X during Sunday's action:
"In the first half today, Javonte Williams had 108 rushing yards and Ryan Flournoy had 104 receiving yards. Going back to 1978, there has never been a game in which the Cowboys had a 100-yard rusher and 100-yard receiver in the same half of a game."
Seriously, how is that even possible?
Now, I'm honestly not quite sure why they only chose to go back to 1978, but what this basically says to me, given the way it was worded and that not as many things were kept track of back then, is that it didn't happen before then either.
So, what that says is that duos such Tony Dorsett and Drew Pearson, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin, DeMarco Murray and Dez Bryant, Ezekiel Elliott and Dez Bryant, Zeke and Amari Cooper, or obviously any other incredible pair in Cowboys history could get this done.
But Javonte Williams and Ryan Flournoy could. Absolutely fascinating, don't you think.
Williams, who's looking like one of the best free-agent pickups Jerry Jones has made in years, ultimately rushed for a season-high 135 yards and a touchdown on just 16 carries, also adding a 4-yard touchdown reception.
Flournoy, meanwhile, had the best game of his young career, catching a career-high six passes for a career-best 114 yards. Coming into Sunday's contest, Flournoy had just 14 receptions for 137 yards through his first 15 professional games.
