Paul Finebaum Roasts Bill Belichick, Advises He ‘Quit Now Before Humiliation Worsens’

As the heat continues to intensify on North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick, popular college football analyst Paul Finebaum explained on Thursday morning why he thinks the NFL legend is already quiet quitting and should leave now while the getting is good.

Things are starting to get perilous for Belichick in Chapel Hill. Heading into Week 7, UNC owns a 2-3 record and has been blown out by any team with a pulse. His ongoing relationship with his 50-year-younger gal pal, Jordon Hudson, has been the source of headlines for all the wrong reasons since he took the job. Plus, his petty beef with the New England Patriots and the pettiness he has brought even more negativity to the program.

Yet, that is not where the trouble ends. Earlier this week, a new exposé revealed details on the dysfunction at North Carolina, and that Tar Heels’ cornerbacks coach, Armond Hawkins, was suspended recently after it was found he had violated NCAA rules by giving extra benefits to the relatives of athletes. That’s why it is no surprise the school recently scrapped plans for a Hulu documentary on the 73-year-old’s first season at North Carolina.

Bill Belichick, UNC try to quiet speculation about his future

On Wednesday, Andrew Jones of 24/7 Sports reported that “There are many other violations that have occurred, many on the recruiting front,” that UNC administrators have begun “potential exit strategy discussions,” and being fired before this weekend’s game against California was a possibility.

Following the report, UNC released a statement to try and bring down the temperature under Belichick’s hot seat. “I’m fully committed to UNC football and the program we’re building here,” the coach said in the statement. While Director of Athletics, Bubba Cunningham, proclaimed “full support” for the NFL legend.

That is unlikely to quiet the speculation about the program potentially ousting Bill Belichick if things descend into even greater chaos.

Paul Finebaum says Bill Belichick is already mentally ‘checked out’

The recent reports were a topic of discussion on a Thursday edition of ESPN’s Get Up, where popular college football analyst Paul Finebaum was asked about the Belichick situation. And he held nothing back as he explained why he thinks the coach is already mentally “checked out’ and should quit before things get worse.

“I felt those statements were completely and totally bogus,” Finebaum began by saying. “If you’re going to make a declarative statement, make it. Just don’t issue a meaningless piece of paper, which is what Belichick did. It feels to me like it is over, and I think his behavior is indicative of that. I don’t want to make too much out of it, but he basically took a week off during the BYE week.

“He’s entitled to have his own private life, but I’ve never heard of a coach in big-time college football to do something like that,” he added. “Maybe take the afternoon off to play golf, but not go on vacation. To me, he has checked out. The play on the field has checked out. His coaching has been abysmal, and I think Bill Belichick would be wise to walk out now before the humiliation gets any worse.”

It will be interesting to see how things continue to play out over the next couple of weeks.
