After a week off, thanks to their bye week, the Chicago Bears will get back to work this week, as they’ll take on the Washington Commanders (3-2) on the road on Monday Night Football. Kick off is slated for 7:15 p.m. CDT and will air on ABC and ESPN. The Bears have dug themselves out of a 0-2 start, taking down the Cowboys in Week 3 for their first home win of the season. Then they got their first road win in dramatic fashion against the Las Vegas Raiders, with special teamer Josh Blackwell blocking the Raiders’ 54-yard game-winning field goal attempt.
It’s been a bit of an up-and-down season for the Commanders to start 2025, as they sit just a game over .500 through five weeks. If you take a look at their schedule, the games they have won have been in blowout fashion, winning by an average of 16.3 points per game in those three dubs for Washington. The teams they’ve beaten are also all over the spectrum in terms of they current standing, having defeated the rebuilding New York Giants, the veteran Raiders, and one of the hottest teams in the league, the Los Angeles Chargers. They were able to stay afloat after the offensive rookie of the year from last year, Jayden Daniels, sprained his knee and missed two games. Former No. 2 overall pick Marcus Mariota led them to a win over his former team, the Raiders, but lost to another one of Mariota’s former teams, the Atlanta Falcons, in Week 4. Daniels came back for Week 5, as they beat the injured Chargers 27-10, with Daniels putting up 270 total yards and a passing touchdown.
This is the 55th meeting between the Bears and Commanders, with Washington holding the slight all-time series lead 28-25-1. Everyone remembers the last time these two teams met up, with Daniels throwing a miraculous Hail Mary pass that was deflected, but landed in Noah **Brown**’s hands for the game-winning touchdown, with a final score of 18-15. The last time the Bears beat the Commanders was on prime time in 2023, on a Thursday night in October, 40-20. Justin Fields went 15/29 passing, 282 yards, and four touchdown passes, three to DJ Moore, who also collected 230 receiving yards.
