Charity Bets are back! I've been doing this for several years now, and almost didn't do it this year. Fans called for it to come back, so we started in Week Four... and got a win. It hasn't gone quite as well since, but let's try to change that.
Before we get into my picks for the week, let's have a reminder of what we're doing here. This is fun. First and foremost. We're going to make five separate bets each week, and place $100 or so (fake, as far as you know) on each one. Second most important (maybe first) is that this is all for charity.
Half of all the fake money that is won from these fake bets will be turned into real money and donated to the below charities. For instance, if we're "up" $2,000 at the end of the season, I will donate $1,000 to each of the four charities we listed here.
If we lose money on the year, we'll split the losses (or go $500 a piece, whichever is more) to each charity. Over the first four years of this exercise, we've donated more than $12,000 to various charities, including St. Jude's, the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Foundation, the Ronald McDonald House of Morgantown, the Mountaineer Food Bank, Team Wammer, The Gary Sinise Foundation, and the Facing Hunger Food Bank. Here's a look at who we are donating to this year.
