A diehard Los Angeles Lakers fan is suing LeBron James for a little over $800 for the scam that was his much hyped second “decision.”
James and his 2010 “decision” will forever live in basketball infamy. The best player on the planet at the time was a free agent and decided that when he made his choice on which team he would play for he wanted to let the whole world know all at once in a live announcement on ESPN.
He chose the Miami Heat, but the moment was widely panned by NBA experts and fans. That is why when he announced last week plans for a second “decision,” most rolled their eyes and figured it was a publicity stunt to bring attention to a new endeavor, just like Tom Brady did last month.
Well, it seems long-time Lakers fan Andrew Garcia bought into the hype, hook, line, and sinker. On Thursday, he told TMZ Sports he assumed James was planning to announce this was going to be his final season in the NBA. So he ran out to buy tickets for his final game against his original team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, on March 31, 2026.

Well, James did not announce his retirement. Instead, as most assumed, it was all a ploy to reveal a new partnership with Hennessey. That was bad news for Garcia, and he revealed to TMZ he is actually suing the NBA icon in small claims court to get back what he paid for two tickets, which was $865.55.
In the suit, Garcia claims he was a victim of “fraud, deception, and misrepresentation” by the 21-time All-Star. “I wouldn’t have purchased it if he wasn’t going to retire. Plain and simple,” he told TMZ.
James is reportedly worth well over a billion dollars. While the claim from the fan is a high level of petty, if word gets back to the NBA legend, it would be funny if he ended up paying for the two tickets and gave him a couple extra to a future Lakers game. It would be a classy move, while also a great response to how weird sports fans can be.
