Is Josh McDaniels in for the long haul with Drake Maye and the Patriots?

FOXBOROUGH - Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has established a good rapport and productive bond with quarterback Drake Maye.

Five weeks into the season, Maye has worked through some kinks, but has found his rhythm in recent weeks, with his performance in the upset win over the Buffalo Bills (22-for-30, 273 yards) the highlight thus far.

During his media session Thursday, McDaniels was asked if he’d be content coaching Maye for the rest of his career or if he still aspired to being a head coach again one day.

McDaniels, who is 49, smiled hearing the question before answering.

“I love living in New England. That’s the short of it. I just try to focus on now, I’m really enjoying coaching for Mike (Vrabel), and the staff and the guys we have here in the organization,” McDaniels said. “That would be surprising if I moved my kids out of Westwood ... come hell or high water.”

McDaniels, of course, has had two failed head coaching stints first in Denver (2009-10), and most recently with Las Vegas (2022-23).

He’s on his third tour with the Patriots, and was a part of all six championships with the team.
