ESPN NFL commentary says Ty Simpson is a first-round draft pick

The surprise of the college football season thus far is the emergence of Alabama quarterback [Ty Simpson.](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/ncaa-football/alabama/news/former-alabama-qb-gives-ty-simpson-advice-his-first-startfo/1ed4fdff99b445abce5c5966)

Before the season started, Simpson was an unknown commodity. There were whispers in camp about how good he was, but no one knew for sure what the Alabama coaching staff had, especially after the Florida State game.

But since then, he’s been on a tear. Simpson has thrown for nearly 1500 yards, 13 touchdowns, and only one interception in leading his team to a 4-1 record.

Simpson is now considered by many the best quarterback not only in the SEC but in the country as well, and he may be positioning himself to be a first-round draft pick, according to ESPN’s Dan Orlosky, who appeared on the podcast “The Next Round” on Thursday.

Orlosky said going into this season, not much was known about him, including what class he was in but, he is slowly making his way into the first round of the draft.

The reality with Ty is no one knows much about him,” he said. “But as far as throwing it, he continues to play this way, he’s a first-round pick.”

"If Ty Simpson plays the next 7 or 8 games the way he has his first 5 games, he'll be a first-round pick. No question,” [he said](https://x.com/NextRoundLive/status/1976347442158436731).

Before the season began, the names Arch Manning, Garrett Nussmeier, and Cade Klubnik were all considered not only first-rounders but Heisman contenders, but each has struggled, as Simpson has risen his way to the top of the SEC and maybe a first-rounder in the NFL Draft.
