Everton and West Ham United have emerged as potential candidates to sign Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee during the January transfer window, according to Teamtalk.
The Red Devils reinforced the centre-forward department with Benjamin Sesko this summer, and the Slovenian has made a good impression thus far with two Premier League goals.
On the other hand, Zirkzee has become a squad player under manager Ruben Amorim. The Dutchman had a tough debut campaign with three goals from 32 league appearances last term.
The former Bologna man found himself as a regular on the bench during the back end of last season, and his situation has remained the same after the club’s summer spending spree.
Zirkzee also played as a number 10 under Amorim last season, but the arrivals of Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have meant that he has been limited to cameo roles.
Teamtalk now claim that Everton and West Ham are among clubs tracking his situation, and in our opinion, this could be a blessing in disguise for the Mancunian giants.
Zirkzee is determined to prove himself in the Premier League with another club.
A permanent move to Everton or West Ham would provide a financial boost. United could utilise the funds to purchase a top-class holding midfielder such as Sevilla’s Lucien Agoume.
The Red Devils may seek to recoup most of the £36 million spent to sign him from Bologna in 2024.
His departure could also pave the way for the breakthrough of Chido Obi or Gabriele Biancheri.
Obi made his first-team debut during the final phase of the previous season, but has been out of the picture this campaign, with Zirkzee considered as the immediate deputy to Sesko.
Biancheri has also been knocking on the door, but has yet to make his senior bow. The Welshman is two years older than Obi and could get his opportunity with Zirkzee’s mid-season exit.
