Amid conservative backlash over Bad Bunny’s upcoming Super Bowl performance, the nonprofit cofounded by slain activist Charlie Kirk is planning a competing halftime show.
Turning Point USA says its “All American Halftime Show” will celebrate “faith, family and freedom.”
The organization cofounded by Kirk said it would provide additional information later.
The group tweeted a link to americanhalftimeshow.com, which features a form to fill out for updates on the performance and an agreement to receive fundraising appeals.
The form also asks, “What music genres would you like to see featured?”
Among the choices are “Anything in English,” a clear reference to the criticism Bad Bunny has received for the Spanish lyrics in his songs.
The NFL selecting the Puerto Rican artist to perform during halftime of Super Bowl LX halftime at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California has fueled backlash from culture war conservatives.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., said Bad Bunny’s appearance will be a “demonic sexual performance,” alluding to the Puerto Rican artist dressing in drag.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said the NFL’s choice of Bad Bunny “seems like a terrible decision.”
“It sounds like he’s not someone who appeals to a broader audience,” Johnson said, adding that he had not heard of Bad Bunny before the NFL’s announcement was made.
“There’s so many eyes on the Super Bowl. A lot of impressionable young children,” the speaker continued. “And I think, in my view, you would have Lee Greenwood or role models doing that, not somebody like this.”
