Patrick Mahomes could once again be without Xavier Worthy

Kansas City's season is already spiraling downward, and now Patrick Mahomes might lose the one player who helped resuscitate them from falling any further early in the NFL season. The report comes after the Chiefs' QB already threw his teammates under the bus after their most recent defeat.

Kansas City is 2-3. Their offense has been stagnant, and the team that once closed miraculous games in the fourth quarter keeps losing them by a single score. The Chiefs' Thursday injury report indicated that Mahomes may not have Xavier Worthy on Sunday night, and he's been the one player who can stretch a field and create dynamic drives.

Worthy was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, but did not participate on Thursday. He was the only name among eleven listed on the report, including Mahomes, who did.

With just one Friday practice left before the team decides, Mahomes risks losing his sole receiver, who averages a first down (11.8 yards) as a rusher and ranks fifth in yards despite only three games. With Rashee Rice still serving a suspension and receiving support from his teammates, the Chiefs will be left with Hollywood Brown, Tyquan Thornton, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Jalen Royals.

The speedster suffered a shoulder injury on opening night after colliding with Travis Kelce on a crossing route. The tight end later took full blame for the injury.

"I ran into one of my guys and took him out of the game," Kelce said. "I literally took one of my players out. It is hard to get your juices back knowing you just hurt a guy."

Worthy didn't appear in the Eagles or Giants games, and if he misses Detroit, he will have missed half of Kansas City's games.

When he has played, his effect has been obvious, most notably in the 37–20 win over Baltimore. He led the team in receiving yards with 83 and also led the team in rushing yards with 28.

Xavier Worthy has missed nearly half of the Chiefs' games this season

Detroit is facing injury issues as cornerback Terrion Arnold, linebacker Zach Cunningham, tackle Taylor Decker, safety Kerby Joseph, and running back Sione Vaki all missed practice on Thursday.

Kansas City suffered its latest loss on Monday Night football after falling 31-28 to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The team had 13 penalties for 109 yards that were called out by Andy Reid, and Mahomes turned the ball over with an interception and was outplayed by Trevor Lawrence during the Jags' quarterback's birthday.

Lawrence barreled his way into the endzone late on a "will to run" 1-yard rush that Chiefs' defensive tackle Chris Jones called a "fluke."

"We've got to finish that play. It was a fluke play for him to be able to break that many tackles," he said. "I put it on us as a defense. We've got to finish. We've got to bring him down right there."

Mahomes had a chance to engineer a signature comeback with possession of the ball and less than two minutes remaining on the clock. But his drive ended with an incomplete pass as time expired.
