The news of Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter before their Week 6 matchup against the New York Giants was about as much of a nightmare as fans were expecting.
NFL insider Mike Garafolo reported that Carter is inactive for the game against the Giants. It all comes from a heel injury that popped up earlier in the week. Carter has been dealing with a shoulder injury all season.
Before the game, the Eagles shared that Gabe Hall was being elevated to the active roster from the practice squad. Hall's promotion was a telling sign of what was going to happen with Carter.
This is the second game of the season that Carter has missed after being ejected before stepping on the field for a play against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. Carter was seen spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott right after the opening kickoff.
Carter's loss will be felt by the Eagles
It's been a tough season for Carter as he has racked up just 10 tackles and six quarterback hits in four games. His lingering shoulder injury has affected the way he has played.
Carter did show improvement in the Eagles' 21-17 Week 5 loss to the Denver Broncos. He finished the game with four tackles and one quarterback hit in the contest.
More of the weight will be placed on Jordan Davis and Moro Ojomo to step up on the defensive line. Davis is already having a Pro Bowl season with the Eagles, while Ojomo is making significant strides on the line.

The Eagles' defense is going to look a bit different on the defensive line, but they should still have enough firepower to rush Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart.
