Eagles dealing with defensive nightmare after losing star to injury vs. Giants

Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell suffered a hamstring injury during the second quarter of Thursday night’s game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. He is questionable to return.

Mitchell spent an entire drive in the blue medical tent. Now, he is standing on the sidelines without a helmet. Adoree’ Jackson has replaced him.

The loss of Mitchell makes the Eagles weak at cornerback. Kelee Ringo and Jackson, two of the team’s biggest defensive liabilities, are playing on the boundary together, and Cooper DeJean remains in the slot.

Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has attacked Ringo on completions of 26 and 34 yards. Ringo replaced Jackson as the full-time starter in Week 5 and has flashed decent potential, but he has also struggled with consistency .

With a good performance against the Giants, Jackson could steal the job back from Ringo. He showed improvement in Weeks 2 and 3, but a groin injury sidelined him in Week 4 and Ringo played well enough against the Buccaneers to remain the starter.

After an impressive rookie season, Mitchell has developed into one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks this season. He shut down Rams wide receiver DaVante Adams and Bucs star rookie Emeka Egbuka.

The Eagles desperately need Mitchell to return in the second half. DeJean could move to the outside if Jackson or Ringo become too unreliable.

Parry Nickerson could play in the slot.
