Before kickoff between the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants on Amazon Prime Video’s “Thursday Night Football” pregame show, the panel took a closer look at one of the night’s most compelling storylines — Saquon Barkley facing his former team for the first time after he recently opened up on a story he wish wasn't out in the public.
The broadcast opened with a clip from “Saquon,” a new documentary executive produced by Martin Scorsese, which detailed the star running back’s move from New York to Philadelphia.

“I don’t want to sit here and sound like the bitter ex because I’m not,” Barkley, who was hit with a recent fine from the NFL, said in the feature. “All I wanted was an opportunity to go and see what I’m worth and then match it.”

The segment captured his emotions as he accepted a contract guaranteeing $25.5 million — and a chance to start a new chapter in the NFC East.
After the clip, analyst Richard Sherman wasted no time criticizing the Giants’ front office for letting Barkley leave. “I thought that’s insane,” Sherman said.
“How is this Giants staff still employed? Because you don’t just let a player like that walk out the door.”

Sherman went further, referencing general manager Joe Schoen’s earlier remarks about being at “a different point in our build.” That explanation didn’t sit well with the former All-Pro cornerback.
“I hope no NFL team gets to the point in their build where an All-Pro, Offensive Player of the Year-type player is not valuable to your franchise,” he said. “And if you get to that point, you probably need to go ahead and find a new job.”
As the broadcast cut to live footage of Schoen chatting on the sideline with Eagles GM Howie Roseman, the moment called for a bit of humor.

Saquon Barkley is very much an Eagles player now
That’s when host Charissa Thompson jumped in, laughing, “You see these two talking. They’re not talking about the same thing. I was going to say, I hope they’re not listening to what we’re talking about.”

The backstory here isn’t just drama — it’s grounded in performance. In the 2024 season, Barkley posted perhaps one of the most dominant campaigns of his career: 345 carries for 2,005 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.
He also added 278 receiving yards, giving him 2,283 scrimmage yards total, which led the league and accounted for 34.8% of Philadelphia’s total offense.
But Barkley’s 2025 form, however, shows quite a dip. Through five games, he has poured in 75 carries for 211 yards, averaging 2.8 yards per attempt, with just three rushing touchdowns.
