The Giants blew a 14-3 lead in a Week 5 loss to the Saints, but there’s no time to waste dwelling on the defeat. The G-Men host the Eagles at MetLife Stadium in Week 6 of Thursday Night Football. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET.
New York’s record has fallen to 1-4, making a playoff berth unlikely. However, Giants fans should have no interest in tanking. The team is loaded with young talent that could be the foundation for future success.
The 4-1 Eagles are in a much different position. Philadelphia is a Super Bowl odds leader, despite not looking overly impressive in some victories.

Giants star WR Malik Nabers suffered a season-ending injury in Week 4, and WR Darius Slayton is not expected to play. This leaves rookie QB Jaxson Dart with WR Wan’Dale Robinson and RB Cam Skattebo as the only New York pass catchers with 100+ yards on the year.
Putting up points was already a struggle for a Giants’ offense that scores 17.4 points per game. It won’t be any easier with Nabers out, Slayton doubtful and RT Jermaine Eluemunor on the injury report.
Philadelphia’s offensive line hasn’t looked like the dominant unit that helped the team win a Super Bowl earlier this year. The Eagles’ 99.8 rushing yards per game is eighth-worst in the NFL, and QB Jalen Hurts has taken 15 sacks. They’re also averaging the second-fewest passing yards (161.8).
LG Landon Dickerson has been banged up for most of the season, and the three-time Pro Bowler was a non-participant in the first two practices this week. Losing Dickerson won’t help the offensive line, but sitting him now makes sense considering the upcoming schedule (at Giants, at Vikings, vs. Giants and then a bye).
New York has a solid pass rush headlined by LB Brian Burns and LB Kayvon Thibodeaux, but the defense has been leaky against the run. The G-Men have surrendered the seventh-most rushing yards per game (140) and the fifth-most rushing touchdowns (6).
Despite the poor play and injuries along the Eagles’ offensive line, this is an opportunity to build momentum. RB Saquon Barkley has been held to 46 rushing yards or less in three straight games, but I expect that streak to end tonight.
I’m also betting the Eagles to cover the spread because they’ve dominated this NFC East rivalry in recent years. Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni is 7-2 against New York, and the average margin of victory is 18 points.

Why the Eagles could win as the favorite
Best odds:-360 at DraftKings
There are a few dynamics at play that favor the Eagles, not including Philadelphia having the superior roster in this Thursday Night Football clash.
Both teams get equal rest after playing on Sunday in Week 5. However, the Giants had to fly home from New Orleans, while the Eagles remained in Philadelphia. New York is the home team tonight, but it’s a very short flight from the City of Brotherly Love.
This is Dart’s first time game planning during a short week. That should help an Eagles’ defense that’s been solid against the pass.
Philly will also be motivated to get back on track after suffering its first loss of the season in Week 5. The Birds lost the time of possession battle and gained fewer total yards in the defeat, and that can’t sit well with Sirianni.
Why the Giants could win as the underdog
Best odds:+310 at FanDuel
Besides a high-scoring Week 2 loss against a terrible Cowboys’ defense, the Giants’ offense lacked a spark with QB Russell Wilson at the helm. They haven’t been lighting up the scoreboard with Dart running the show, but the unit has looked better.
New York notched an upset win over the Chargers in Week 4 and was on its way to a 2-0 record with Dart under center in Week 5. The G-Men led the Saints 14-3 until New Orleans rattled off 23 unanswered points. NY committed five turnovers, including three total turnovers by Dart and a lost fumble by Skattebo.
Losing in Week 5 and moving to a 1-4 record was crushing for Giants fans, but there are always ebbs and flows with young players. The team clearly got a boost when Dart made his debut against the Chargers, and it helped New York beat a superior team. The same could be true in tonight’s matchup.
