Thursday night at MetLife Stadium had everything — chaos, controversy, and, for a brief moment, a blast from the past.
The New York Giants’ rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, whose ex-girlfriend opened up about their breakup, went down late in the third quarter of their Thursday Night Football matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, sending a hush across the stadium.

Moments later, the crowd’s silence turned into loud, merciless boos — directed not at an opponent, but at veteran backup Russell Wilson, who was told he has "played himself out" of the Hall of Fame. The play that caused it all unfolded quickly. Dart, who had been sharp all evening, was sacked on first-and-10 at the Eagles’ 44 and stayed down holding his head.

The medical staff immediately called for a timeout and guided him into the blue tent for a concussion evaluation. Head coach Brian Daboll, visibly frustrated, was seen pacing on the sideline and later venting his frustrations to the team doctor as Dart was in the tent.
With Dart temporarily sidelined, Wilson entered the game for just two plays. On second down, the 36-year-old quarterback handed the ball off, drawing scattered murmurs from the crowd.
Then, on third-and-nine, he dropped back and threw a low, under-targeted pass to Jalin Hyatt that fell several yards short of the first-down marker. The boos that followed were ruthless and deafening, echoing through MetLife as Wilson jogged off the field.

Wilson’s presence on the Giants has been one of the most intriguing storylines of the 2025 season. He signed a one-year deal worth $10.5 million as the presumed bridge quarterback, with the Giants also drafting Dart and carrying veteran Jameis Winston on the roster.
But after a 0–3 start and subpar outcomes, the Giants made the bold move to bench the 36-year-old in favor of their rookie prospect.
Wilson’s honeymoon turned rocky. In his three starts, he failed to deliver consistent or effective play.
His performance in a 22–9 prime-time loss to the Kansas City Chiefs — completing 18 of 32 passes for 160 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions — was the tipping point. Fans at MetLife jeered him openly, chanting “We want Dart.”

The organization reportedly decided that the move to Dart was “the right thing for our football team,” as Daboll put it. Wilson, in turn, accepted the change with outward grace, saying “I’m not done” and committing to mentoring Dart and backing the team.
Still, for most of the night, the Giants looked like the more composed team. Rookie running back Cam Skattebo continued his breakout stretch with three touchdowns, including a one-yard plunge following a 68-yard interception return off Jalen Hurts.
Dart finished 17 of 25 for 195 yards and two total touchdowns as the Giants stunned the defending NFC champs, 34–17. Skattebo added 98 rushing yards, while Wan’Dale Robinson led with 84 receiving yards and a touchdown in New York’s most complete win of the season.
