The San Antonio Spurs moved to 2-0 in the preseason with a 112-107 victory over the Miami Heat, who dropped to 0-3 with the loss. The Spurs finished the game on a 9-0 run to escape Miami with a win. San Antonio plays their third game of the preseason on Friday versus the Utah Jazz.

Spurs at Heat – Final Grades
Victor Wembanyama
Early on in preseason play, Wembanyama has had trouble with turnovers. His decisions with the ball aren’t crisp, to put it gently. That said, Wembanyama’s passing looks improved and he has clearly added elements to his game. He’s not relying on three-pointers right now. Is that a permanent change or just some preseason experimentation? I guess we’ll find out.
Grade: B-
Devin Vassell
The good: Vassell looked spry after missing the first preseason game. He was active with and without the ball. Defensively, there were moments of impressive effort. The bad: Vassell’s shot-selection was iffy. With the Spurs amassing more talent, he’s really going to have to learn how to play within an offense.
Grade: B-
Keldon Johnson
Johnson has looked really good in the two exhibition games. He’s playing a physical brand of basketball and he appears to be as strong as ever. He’s keeping his mistakes to a minimum and sticking to his strengths. Good stuff.
Grade: A-
Harrison Barnes
Barnes is a vet so he knows he doesn’t have to go all out in preseason — and it shows. On the positive side, though, it was good to see him knock down a couple three-pointers and hustle here and there.
Grade: C+
Julian Champagnie
The Spurs will desperately need shooting again this season and Champagnie is attempting to prove that he’s capable of providing just that. He hit 5-of-7 three-pointers against the Heat — and a couple of them were legitimately difficult attempts. Champagnie will stay in the rotation as long as he can shoot it anywhere close to this well in the regular season.
Grade: A-
Carter Bryant
Bryant is loose with the ball and makes highly questionable decisions on both ends. He doesn’t always know what to do on offense and will sometimes hack for no reason on defense. But, man, the glimpses are exciting. Defensively, he uses his imposing frame and athleticism to swallow up possessions. Offensively, he’s starting to show he’s better than advertised. When the Spurs needed a bucket in this preseason game, it was usually Bryant stepping up. His jumper looks good and it looks like he should be able to score consistently off the dribble.
Grade: A-
Adam Flagler
Flagler doesn’t blow you away with size or skill but he’s a solid player who would be valuable in Austin. He runs plays well, can space the floor with his shot and exhibits wherewithal on the defensive end.
Grade: B
Luke Kornet
It has only been two preseason contests but Kornet has looked really good. He finishes with power, rebounds extremely well, processes the game quickly and makes wise passes. Can Kornet play next to Wembanyama? It’s looking like a possibility.
Grade: B+
Lindy Waters III
Waters has a picture-perfect shooting stroke and plays with grit. Those two traits alone should allow him to make this squad.
Grade: B
David Jones Garcia
In summer league, Jones Garcia looked like a big and powerful guard who could get to any spot on the floor he wanted. Unfortunately, against true NBA competition, Jones Garcia looks small and not especially athletic.
Grade: C+
Bismack Biyombo
I’m not sure why Biyombo is getting 11 minutes of playing time in a preseason game in 2025.
Grade: C
Harrison Ingram
Ingram is about as uninteresting of a prospect as they come. He’s not a bad basketball player but I don’t see any strengths to build off of at this point of his development.
Grade: B-
Micah Potter
Potter can shoot threes. Making threes is a different matter altogether.
Grade: C+
Riley Minix
Minix wasn’t able to show much in his six minutes. More minutes would have been nice.
Grade: Inc.
Stanley Umude
Umude had the right idea a few times but his finishing of plays left a lot to be desired.
Grade: Inc.
Mitch Johnson
Outside of the aforementioned minutes-related issues, I didn’t have an issue with how Johnson coached this game.
