'Real stamp…' Ian Wright sends powerful message to Man Utd ace about what he must do after England's win vs Wales

ITV pundit Ian Wright has spoken out about on-loan Manchester United star Marcus Rashford and one other England player after the Three Lions’ victory over Wales.

England returned to action on Thursday evening for a friendly against Wales ahead of their World Cup qualifier match against Latvia in the October international break.

Marcus Rashford was on the bench for England at Wembley and Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel turned to the Manchester United player for the second half.

Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins, who was linked with United in recent months, made way at half-time and Barcelona summer signing Rashford took to the pitch.

England were already leading Wales 3-0 in the first half of Thursday’s friendly clash at Wembley before Rashford was introduced to the attack under Thomas Tuchel.

The Manchester United loanee has been able to revive his career away from Old Trafford after falling out of favour under Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim.

Rashford completed a move to Barcelona in the summer and the England international has secured regular playing time under manager Hansi Flick.

Thomas Tuchel made the call to start Anthony Gordon in England’s 3-0 win over Wales by playing the Newcastle winger out on the left-hand side of his set-up.

Speaking after the match on Thursday, Ian Wright suggested that the left winger role under Tuchel remains ‘up for grabs’ between Anthony Gordon and Rashford.

“Yeah, I think so [the left winger position remaining open],” he said in the ITV Sport studio.

“Especially, you know, you see Gordan, he kind of you know, stops-starts, you don’t really see it yet.

“You know, Marcus is always there to come on as well, but there isn’t anyone that’s put a real stamp and marker down and say, ‘Yeah, I’m going to make sure I make that left side mine.’

“So, yeah, there’s still a left side up for grabs for someone.”

Man Utd and Barcelona forward Marcus Rashford has it all to prove that he can be one of Thomas Tuchel’s main picks for England

Rashford’s time at Aston Villa in the second half of the 2024-25 Premier League season saw the Barcelona summer signing return to the England squad under Thomas Tuchel.

The ex-Villa player lost his place with the Three Lions under Sir Gareth Southgate and Rashford’s poor run of form at United resulted in him missing Euro 2024.

Sir Gareth Southgate stepped down as England manager after the Three Lions’ defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final and Tuchel succeeded him in the role.

England have had a strong World Cup qualifying campaign so far and the Three Lions are on the verge of securing qualification for next summer’s tournament.

The Three Lions will reach the 2026 World Cup if they defeat Latvia on Tuesday and Serbia lose to either Albania or Andorra during the October international break.
