Jaxson Dart and Cameron Skattebo look like the real deal in Giants’ TNF shocker

“Live by the sword, die by the sword,” said New York Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas, describing Jaxson Dart after the game. The rookie quarterback lit the stadium on fire Thursday night against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Giants put up a 34-17 win on the backs of their rookie performers, Dart and running back Cam Skattebo. The signal caller completed 17 of 25 passes for 195 yards and one touchdown. Skattebo scored three times, rushing for 98 yards on 19 carries.

The result was surprising, given the team’s underwhelming primetime record. They had managed to win only once in 13 primetime showings at MetLife Stadium since 2019. It seems the rookie duo may be changing that.

“Quite honestly, nobody really expected us to put up a performance like this,” Dart said. “We felt confident. We just tried to play hard for each other. We’re not trying to make statements. We’re just trying to play for each other and win games.”

“At times there’s some negativity that’s surrounding here,” he added. “For us, some of the new guys coming in here, we just got here so we don’t feel like we’re involved in the past. We’ve got a lot of winners on this team.”

Thomas returned from an injury back in Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs and, since then, has started every game. He was quick to notice how the crowd went wild when they saw Dart’s plays on Thursday.

“They just love ball,” he said of both Dart and Skattebo. “They’re not really focused or concerned about how old they are, how many games they’ve been in, just they love football, they’re passionate about it, they play their tails off. And they brings guys with them.”
