Exclusive: Liverpool monitoring Real Madrid star as Arne Slot transfer stance revealed

TBR Football understands that Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Eduardo Camavinga’s situation at Real Madrid.

Arne Slot’s side enjoyed a busy summer, but it is believed there are concerns that they lack depth in the holding midfield role.

Ryan Gravenberch has excelled and continues to do so, but aside from the Dutchman, they have few options. Alexis McAllister has been deployed in the role, but it is not his natural position, and the same can be said of Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones.

They have already done plenty of work on possible players, and as TBR Football has previously revealed, Liverpool are admirers of the likes of Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton – both potential options who could very well be moving in 2026.

We can now confirm that Liverpool’s recruitment department is looking at potential options heading into the New Year.

However, we can now reveal that Camavinga’s name has been discussed internally by Liverpool, and he is very much an option, should they indeed pursue another player for that role.

Exclusive: Liverpool eyeing potential move for Eduardo Camavinga

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has exclusively revealed that Real Madrid understand they may be forced to relinquish Camavinga’s services, with Liverpool among several potential suitors.

Bailey states: “Camavinga is a top performer and still only 22. Real Madrid love him, but within the Bernabeu, they know they can’t keep a player who isn’t playing – especially when he has other top clubs who would readily take him.

“He is one to keep an eye on. There are a few big names under Xabi Alonso that could very well be on the move in 2026.

“Liverpool are not the only club keeping an eye on Camavinga, but there would be few better landing spots.”

Liverpool showed strong interest in Camavinga alongside rivals Manchester United before he moved to the Spanish capital back in 2021.

The 22-year-old has featured prominently since joining Real, but he started only 11 La Liga games last term. This season, under new boss Xabi Alonso, he is very much behind fellow countryman Aurelien Tchouameni and has yet to start in the league under Alonso.

Arsenal enquired about Camavinga towards the end of last season, but with Martin Zubimendi already agreed to arrive at the Emirates, Mikel Arteta shelved his interest in the midfielder.

Outside of Wataru Endo and Stefan Bajcetic, with the latter yet to feature this season, Slot does not have a top-quality option to compete with Gravenberch for the holding midfield role. And it appears securing worthwhile competition for the Dutchman is at the top of the agenda at Anfield.

Adam Wharton wants to join Liverpool

The Reds are expected to face fierce competition for all three of their midfield targets in the 2026 summer transfer window.

Baleba is already garnering significant interest from Manchester United, while Camavinga will likely be one of the most in-demand players on the market should Madrid make the Frenchman available.

However, Wharton is ready to wait for Liverpool after becoming the subject of intense interest from Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The Englishman has named Anfield as his preferred destination.

This, of course, would ensure negotiations around personal terms are smooth. However, as seen with the failed transfer of Marc Guehi, who could still arrive at Liverpool next year, Crystal Palace are notoriously difficult negotiators.
