Ricky Hatton's funeral will take place today with thousands of fans gathering on the streets of Manchester to pay their respects to the late boxer who passed away on September 14 at the age of just 46. The funeral procession began this morning outside Hatton's local, Cheshire Cheese pub, in his hometown of Hyde.

The procession will make seven stops before it arrives at Manchester Cathedral where a private service will be held for the boxing legend at midday. After the service, the cortege will move on to the Etihad Stadium, home of Hatton's beloved Manchester City.

Ricky's coffin passed by his boxing gym and the AO Arena earlier this morning, with one particularly touching moment outside the New Inn seeing doves being released from a basket in honour of the boxing legend.

Hatton died suddenly on September 14 with his body being found in his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester. Police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

His passing came three months before Hatton was set to fight in an exhibition bout with boxing fans and fighters left devastated by his sudden loss.

Thousands have turned out to say their final goodbyes to The Hitman with much of the route from Hyde to Manchester lined with crowds waving blue balloons and flags.

Many of the fans are also wearing Manchester City football jerseys as a mark of respect for Hatton’s favourite club.

The procession features a famous three-wheeler yellow car at the front called a Reliant Regal, made famous by Only Fools and Horses. Ricky owned a Reliant Regal from the iconic British sitcom and was seen driving it during his life.

Colourful flower tributes on the back of the truck carrying the car, spell out his famous nickname 'Hitman'.
