Matt Steel's bye week draft talk

Watching **[Dillon Gabriel](https://247sports.com/Player/dillon-gabriel-46046633/)** on Sunday morning had me thinking that I should have valued him more than a fourth-or fifth-round pick. I believe in the Bill Parcells theory of quarterbacks needing a certain number of college starts. Gabriel had an NCAA record 63 starts. That experience was on display Sunday morning with his ability to find outlets quickly under pressure. That experience was also evident on a third-down red-zone touchdown pass to **[David Njoku](https://247sports.com/Player/david-njoku-30655/)**, in which he looked off the safety to create space down the seam.

I'm not saying Gabriel will be a high-end starting quarterback in this league. There are concerns regarding size and arm talent. But I wouldn't be surprised if he can Drew Brees his way into being a mid-level starter who's capable of playing winning football. The Steelers will have their work cut out for them on Sunday against a player who's had plenty of starting experience to play winning football.

Gabriel's start led me to think about the 2026 draft. Those who are members of this site may recall a blog conversation we had back in August, in which I expressed my disappointment with the draft class that seemed to be overhyped.
