How Manchester City are 'feeling' about Jahmai Simpson-Pusey's Celtic loan

Manchester City have made a decision over Jahmai Simpson-Pusey’s loan to Celtic.

The young central defender made the season-long switch to the Hoops from the Etihad Stadium at the beginning of August.

However, Simpson-Pusey had been struggling with a knock upon his arrival and it meant he could not make an immediate debut.

He recovered and managed to make the bench for Celtic’s home and away legs against Kairat Almaty in the Champions League play-off.

But the 19-year-old has yet to play a single minute for the Bhoys and the whole purpose of the loan has been thrown into serious doubt.

Simpson-Pusey reportedly set to remain at Celtic until January

Despite all of this, it is being reported by CeltsAreHere that Man City do not currently intend to recall Simpson-Pusey during the January transfer window.

The report states that City still see Celtic as the right fit for the centre-back and an opportunity may arise for him after the October international break.

It is said that the Premier League club will ‘reassess’ Simpson-Pusey’s situation when January rolls around.

CeltsAreHere wrote: “Despite JSP’s lack of involvement, a source at Manchester City has confirmed to CeltsAreHere that they have currently no intention of bringing their defender back to the Etihad when the transfer window opens in January.

“The Premier League giants still see Celtic as the right destination for their man to develop and there is a feeling that he will get an opportunity in Glasgow after this international break.

“It is understood the situation will be re-assessed again after the Christmas period.”

What Brendan Rodgers said about Simpson-Pusey

Back in August, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers reminded fans that Simpson-Pusey did not have a pre-season.

He said the defender would hopefully make ‘some sort of impact’ after the September international break, but that did not transpire. So will he play after the October one?

The Northern Irishman said: “Really the first part of the season was to get him through until the international break.

“He’s getting used to how we’d be working because he’s coming from training with a group of players, he’s played no minutes at all over the pre-season, so he’s not ready.

“But we’re keeping an eye on him and hopefully after the international break, he can make some sort of impact, but that would be up to him. But he’s a talent.”
