Boston Celtics legend arrested on suspicion of DUI

LOS ANGELES, California — Former Boston Celtics star and NBA Hall of Famer Paul Pierce was arrested on suspicion of DUI after he was found asleep at the wheel of his vehicle, reports say.

The California Highway Patrol found Pierce at about 11:35 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 101 in the San Fernando Valley, ABC 7 reports. Lanes on the highway had been closed for an unrelated crash. When officers reopened the lanes, they found Pierce in his Range Rover.

TMZ reports that CHP officers “noted signs of alcohol impairment,” leading to Pierce’s arrest. He has been charged with a misdemeanor of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Reports say Pierce has not commented on the incident.

Pierce, a small forward and shooting guard, played for 15 seasons with the Celtics. He also played for the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards and L.A. Clippers before retiring in 2017.

The 10-time All-Star and the MVP of the 2008 NBA final averaged 19.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game during his career. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021.
