Meanwhile, the former Leeds United mainstay has no future at the Etihad, and a winter exit is likely.
Kalvin Phillips and his Manchester City woes
Kalvin Phillips has been a peripheral figure since joining Manchester City from Leeds United in a deal worth £42 million, plus £3 million in add-ons, in July 2022. The Englishman was among the Premier League’s best midfielders when he moved to the Etihad after his exploits for Leeds United.
However, the 29-year-old has struggled to make his mark at Manchester City, having failed to win over Pep Guardiola. The Manchester City manager has barely used the former Leeds United midfielder, and the player reached the lowest ebb of his career when Guardiola branded him “overweight” a few years ago. Additionally, loan moves with West Ham United and Ipswich Town did not work out either.
Phillips is back at Manchester City after an underwhelming loan spell with Ipswich Town, and he has managed only seven minutes of game time thus far in the 2025/26 season. So, it is hardly surprising that the English midfielder has no future at the Etihad. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, with Everton among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the winter transfer window.
