There are several moments from the Philadelphia Eagles' embarrassing 34-17 loss to the New York Giants in Week 6 that would be considered "really bad" plays, but one just about sums up how the team has been through this four-day, two-game losing streak.
Remember that one play in the second half of that other ugly 21-17 loss to the Denver Broncos a few days ago when Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts missed a wide-open A.J. Brown down the field that could have been the dagger they needed? Eagles fans know, the one where the two never talked about it and weren't on the same page?
It happened again. Sort of.
The miss deep ball by Hurts that could have brought momentum to the Eagles
There was a little over 12 minutes left in the third quarter after the Eagles' defense got a rare stop on the Giants' offense. Eagles are only down by three points. Hurts and company were on offense and had a long way to go to score a touchdown.
To Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo's credit, he called the perfect play on third and six at their own 11-yard line. Hurts has a shot to go deep with the football to a wide-open DeVonta Smith. Finally, there will be redemption for the missed deep ball to Brown a few days ago.
Nope. Overthrown again by five yards. The dream of an 89-yard touchdown to take the lead was gone.
Fans want to talk about a turning point in a game. That was it. The Eagles punted the ball, and the one shot at taking the lead slipped right through their fingers.
So what happened? Why did Hurts miss the throw? In typical Hurts fashion, it was a short, straight-to-the-point answer.
“I didn’t give him a good ball.”
Hard to argue the logic there. The replay clearly shows that Hurts missed, which has been a common problem for him over the last two games: he's not hitting the deep balls with the same accuracy as he has in the past few years.
How many times are Eagles fans going to hear the excuse that they didn't execute on the play or in the game? At some point, it has to get figured out. Patullo can only do so much as a play-caller, but Hurts has to find a way to fix his deep ball issues and hit those wide-open shots.
Overall, for the game, it wasn't Hurts' best performance. He threw for 283 yards and scored two touchdowns, but had his first interception of the season.

That one miss by Hurts is a perfect metaphor for the Eagles over the last four days. They have the potential to be great and win these games, but just whiffed each time.
