A new documentary, The Boy from St. Croix, will soon show a side of Tim Duncan the world has yet to see.
Premiering at the Austin Film Festival on October 28th, the intimate look into the life of the living legend is directed by his brother, Scott Duncan. A 19-time Emmy winner, Scott has been the director of photography for the hit TV show, Survivor, for over 20 years.
“I’ve been fortunate to film with thousands of athletes during my career,” said Duncan. "None of them have fascinated me and challenged me as a filmmaker as much as my brother."
The fact that Tim Duncan agreed to be in the spotlight should undoubtedly come as a surprise to everyone. It's no secret he's lived his life as quietly as a dominant superstar can, and he wouldn't have it any other way. Still, it was the close bond between brothers that ultimately led to a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity becoming a reality.
"I convinced Timmy, who lives his life without pretension, to let me interview him, talk about his life, and film him on some very meaningful adventures back home and beyond," said the accomplished director.
'The Boy from St. Croix' will chronicle Tim Duncan's life like never before
Featuring interviews with Gregg Popovich, David Robinson, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and a number of other basketball luminaries, the film is a long-awaited look into a superstar who’s kept the world at arm’s length for decades, and whose connection to the island that raised him endures.

Executive produced by Rasta Magic and Words + Pictures, the documentary includes never-before-seen home videos, breathtaking scenic cinematography, and an in-depth look at the incredible 19-year career of The Big Fundamental.
When the rare opportunity presented itself, studio producer Connor Schell jumped at the chance to be part of something that has turned into a decades-long project.
“A few years ago, when I got on a call with Scott Duncan and he told me he was making a film about his brother, I couldn’t have been more excited,” said Connor Schell, the founder and CEO of Words + Pictures. “We are so proud to have partnered with Scott and Tim on this project, which is not just emotionally resonant but also visually stunning. We can’t wait for the world to see it.”
The highly anticipated documentary will have its world premiere exclusively at the Austin Film Festival on October 28th at 7:00 pm CT. General festival badges and film passes are on sale now here, and limited advance individual tickets to the film can be purchased for $20 here.
