Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is the target of criticism from the team's fans for what might be the first time in his career after missing several kicks through the first five games of the season.
Since Butker joined the Chiefs in the 2017 season, he has been one of the best kickers in the league - being a clutch player while making a number of big kicks in key moments. Despite his off-field controversies, while stating that women 'must fulfil their roles' as 'homemakers' amid a number of other seemingly sexist comments, Butker been a beloved member of the team that has won three Super Bowl's in six years.

In the Chiefs opening day loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, Butker missed a kick with Rich Eisen on commentary making a joke at his expense. And in their defeat to the Jaguars this weekend, Butker shanked another attempt, with fans beginning to become frustrated with their number 7.

One Chiefs beat reporter has been praised for his comments on stating that he believes the Chiefs should turn to a familiar face should Butker continue to struggle.
Fansided’s Ernesto Cova had said: "They should turn to Matthew Wright, who’s already more than familiar with the organization and special teams coordinator Dave Toub, as his replacement. He’s been with the franchise three times already, including once last season."
Wright has played in four games for the Chiefs over the last three years, coming in and impressing when Butker had been injured and missed time. He's been a reliable kicker in the league, but has been unable to find a team to be their first-choice kicker. He is currently on the practice squad for the Tennessee Titans, meaning the Chiefs could sign him at any point.

Butker had faced calls for the NFL to remove him from the league in 2024, after he gave a speech at Benedictine College.
In that speech, he said: "Things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for degenerative cultural values in media all stem from the pervasiveness of disorder.
"For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.
“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.

“I’m on this stage today, able to be the man that I am, because I have a wife who leans into her vocation. I’m beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all. Homemaker.”
It should be noted that the chanced of the Chiefs cutting Butker are extremely slim at this point, due to his contractual situation.
The kicker signed a four-year, $25.6 million deal in the 2024 offseason to make him the highest-paid kicker in NFL history after his impressive time with the team.
