Everton fans were left stunned when Jack Grealish was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s current England squad, but Jamie O’Hara believes he knows why.
Grealish scored his first goal for the club during Everton’s most recent performance against Crystal Palace, and he has made a strong start to life at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The winger left Manchester City on a season-long loan in the summer to try to rediscover his form, and he has certainly managed to do just that.
However, his performances haven’t been enough to earn him an international opportunity, as Grealish has yet to be called up for England since Tuchel replaced Gareth Southgate.

Jamie O’Hara believes Thomas Tuchel ‘likes pace’ out wide
Tuchel opted to play Anthony Gordon and Marcus Rashford on the left wing against Wales during England’s 3-0 win at Wembley Stadium on Thursday night.
The former Chelsea boss has seemingly preferred both throughout his tenure, despite Grealish’s strong start to the season, which has left people puzzled.
However, during an appearance on talkSPORT, O’Hara made it clear that he doesn’t think it has anything to do with Grealish’s performances but simply that Tuchel wants a different type of player on his team.

“This might be harsh because I really like Jack Grealish, and he’s playing really well. I don’t think Thomas Tuchel is going to fancy him. I don’t think so, he likes pace on the wings.”
O’Hara isn’t the only ex-pro who believes Grealish might not get back into the England setup regardless of his performances.
Ben Foster has claimed that Grealish is “too old” to be considered by Tuchel, which could prevent him from getting any opportunities to showcase his talents.
Grealish has 39 England caps to his name so far, having started 18 of those games. But he has had limited time to make a full impact, as he’s only been given six full games throughout his international career.
Throughout those appearances, the winger has scored four times, one of which came in his most recent England performance, which was back in October 2024, as England defeated Finland 3-1.
Jack Grealish is rediscovering his form at Everton
Grealish moved to Everton during the summer transfer window in a bid to push for a place in Tuchel’s World Cup squad, knowing that regular game time would be crucial.
The 30-year-old has played every Premier League game under David Moyes since he moved to Merseyside, and he’s made a positive impact on Everton’s attacking output.

Twelve of his England caps came during his Aston Villa career, while the other 27 took place while playing for Manchester City, but Grealish will also be hoping to earn some based on his Everton performances.
The next international break will take place in March, giving Grealish several months to try to earn a place in Tuchel’s squad.
