Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown was wide open when quarterback Jalen Hurts threw a crucial interception against the New York Giants, leading to more speculation over a communication breakdown.

The Eagles lost 34-17 to the Giants at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night, as New York rookies Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo led the charge against the Super Bowl champions. Philadelphia started the season 4-0, but has now lost two straight games, leading to offensive concerns.

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley confirmed that a meeting had been held with Hurts and Brown to resolve offensive struggles, but the wide receiver denied that it took place. Hurts ignored Brown for what appeared to be a guaranteed touchdown, and the two stars were not on the same page.

At the start of the fourth quarter, the Eagles trailed by 10 points but were deep in New York territory, 15 yards from the end zone. After an incomplete pass, Philadelphia was 2nd-and-10, meaning Hurts had two more opportunities before Jake Elliott would kick a short field goal to make it a one-possession game.

The Giants blitzed Hurts, leaving open coverage in the end zone, and Brown broke clear from the defense. It would have been an easy completion even under pressure, but Hurts never looked in his direction.

Instead, Hurts tossed the ball wide to Jahan Dotson, although he would have been short of the first-down marker. The play was read perfectly by Giants quarterback Cor'Dale Flott, who intercepted Hurts and ran 68 yards in the other direction.

The play essentially iced the game, and Brown was a frustrated figure in the end zone. A touchdown would have made it a three-point game, and pressure would have been on the New York rookies to overcome Philadelphia's defense.

After the game, Brown was asked about the reported meeting with Barkley and Hurts this week. "I don't know what you're talking about," Brown said. "No... You need to talk to them. I don't recall. I don't recall."

Brown's answer has led to further concerns. Fans started to wonder whether the meeting had occurred at all, if Brown had been excluded from the discussion, or if he was joking around with reporters.

Earlier this week, Barkley shared details of a meeting. "Yeah, we had a conversation, but I'm not going to speak too much on it," he said. "I felt like that conversation was meant to stay between us, but the focus was all about the team, and I think it was a good thing.

"I would definitely say it wasn't like a players' meeting. When you hear ‘players' meeting,’ that's like all hell's breaking loose. It wasn't that at all.

"But also that we're teammates, we’re all friends, we're just having a conversation. And I personally wish that wasn't out there, to be honest.

"But people saw us having a conversation and they got out there. But I don't think we need to make too much of that. Our main focus is on the Giants."
