Former NFL pro bowler awarded $9.5M in fraud settlement against ex-financial advisor

Former Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones has been awarded $9.5 million in a lawsuit settlement with Merrill Lynch after his former financial adviser was accused of stealing $2.59 million from him.

Isaiah Williams, Jones’ former financial adviser and a former Merrill Lynch employee, accessed Jones’ personal accounts to steal $1.56 million in 133 separate transactions from Jan. 2022 to March 2024, according to arrest records.

An additional $1.03 million was stolen from Jones through a laundering scheme that involved bank and cash app transfers between Williams and Octavia Graham of Georgia. Jones told investigators he had never met Graham.

Williams is accused of using the stolen funds to pay for personal expenses including flights and hotels, cars, clothing, jewelry, strip clubs, child support payments, rent, and more, according to court records. He was arrested and charged with fraud, money laundering, identity theft and grand theft in Florida on June 25.

Jones, 37, played 10 seasons in the NFL from 2010-19, all with the Dolphins. He earned two career Pro Bowl selections in 2015, when he led the NFL with two interceptions returned for touchdowns, and 2017. He finished his NFL career with 776 tackles, 55 passes deflected, 21 interceptions (four returned for TDs), seven fumble recoveries (including two for TDs), and three forced fumbles.

Jones earned $58.2 million in salary in his 10 NFL seasons with the Dolphins, according to Spotrac.
