Dan Campbell doesn’t mess around with false reports. The Detroit Lions head coach slammed ESPN’s Adam Schefter after a claim that Detroit contacted the NFL about opponents targeting star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson’s surgically repaired leg. Campbell dismissed it as outright garbage.

The coach pointed his finger and shut down the report during his Wednesday presser. What Campbell said about Schefter’s credibility has fans wondering if the ESPN insider is losing his touch.
Dan Campbell Calls Out Adam Schefter’s False Aidan Hutchinson Claims
Hutchinson returned to the field in 2025 after suffering a devastating tibia and fibula fracture last season. The injury ended his year early, but the former second overall pick returned hungry.
Through three weeks, Hutchinson recorded 12 tackles and 2.5 sacks while anchoring Detroit’s defensive line.
Schefter claimed on ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” before Detroit’s Week 3 win over Baltimore that the Lions contacted league officials about dirty play.
He pointed to Green Bay Packers tight end John FitzPatrick going low on Hutchinson during Week 1.
Schefter said teams targeted the defensive end’s previously fractured leg in the Packers and Chicago Bears games.
Campbell wasn’t having it. “That’s bogus. That’s a bogus report,” hefired back while pointing. “I don’t know where that came from. Nobody from here ever did that. That’s bull.”
Campbell shut it down when pressed about whether he noticed opponents going low on Hutchinson. “No. No, man. Nope,” he said flatly. He added that the game gets played a certain way and Detroit accepts that reality, whether dishing it out or taking it.
The Lions fell 27-13 to Green Bay in Week 1, their only loss of the season so far. Campbell’s frustration wasn’t about the defeat but about Schefter spreading false stories about his team. Fans quickly jumped in, showing they could not stay away from the controversy.
NFL Fans Destroy Adam Schefter for Sloppy Reporting
Fans didn’t hold back after Campbell exposed Schefter’s mistake. The backlash hit fast and hit hard, with supporters questioning whether the longtime NFL insider still has it.
One fanwrote, “Adam is another loser they need to get rid of now. He’s starting to just say whatever for content and hot takes.”
Anotheradded bluntly, “Adam Schefter is a clown, he needs to be fired now.”
The criticism kept rolling. A third observernoted, “Adam has started to get black listed by teams, dude been lying on a weekly basis.”
A fourth fansaid, “Schefty is losing his fastball.”
Schefter built his reputation on breaking trades and signings before anyone else. But hot takes and manufactured drama? That’s not his lane.
When a coach as respected as Campbell calls you out by name and says you’re spreading lies, that’s a credibility problem money can’t fix.
Detroit sits at 2-1 with Super Bowl aspirations, and the last thing they need is the media inventing controversies that don’t exist.
