So far this season, the Carrington treatment room has only had Lisandro Martinez as a long-term occupant after the Argentina international tore his ACL back in February against Crystal Palace.
Thankfully though, new reports have emerged to suggest that the centre-back will be back in full training shortly, aiming to be back in action by the end of the year.
Initially, it looked as though this would set Ruben Amorim up to have his full range of defenders at his disposal for team selections, however this may no longer be the case.
Tonight saw Ayden Heaven take to the pitch for England’s Under-20s in the Elite League against Switzerland, marking the first match of the tournament for England’s young lions.
However, the match didn’t go entirely as Heaven would have planned, as the young centre-back came off injured in the game’s first minute.
That said, it may not be as big a cause for alarm as first thought, with SportBible reporting England Under-20s head coach Ben Futcher as commenting: “He picked something up. I don’t think it is too serious, but we will have to see how it settles down.”
Although these comments sound promising, with the full extent of the issue still unknown, being taken off after a minute never bodes well, so Ruben Amorim will surely want to understand the full problem.
Whilst Heaven hasn’t really been used by Amorim so far this season, only playing 64 minutes in the Red Devils’ Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town, and making a three-minute cameo against Fulham, having him as an option on the bench is a huge boost for the Portuguese manager.
Last season Ayden Heaven had three major outings in the Premier League, playing against his former club Arsenal, as well as Aston Villa and Leicester, avoiding defeat in all three, beating Villa and the Foxes 2-0 and 3-0 respectively.
The 19-year-old’s only full game however came against Real Sociedad in the Europa League last 16 second leg, with United winning 4-1.
