Real Madrid player Franco Mastantuono will not feature for Argentina’s national team this international break due to a muscle strain, it was announced on Friday.
Lionel Scaloni initially selected Mastantuono to play matches against Venezuela and Puerto Rico.
Right before Argentina’s 1-0 win over Venezuela, it was announced that the player would head back to Madrid and would not take part in either of the two games.
Argentina’s official statement read: _“Franco Mastantuono will be out for the remainder of the tour due to a muscle overload in his left thigh. Meanwhile, captain Lionel Messi will not be available for Friday’s match.”_
This comes off as a slightly worrying sign for Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid, but it is also good that he will get some rest for the upcoming matches for Real Madrid.
Mastantuono will hope to recover in time for Real Madrid’s next game, a cross-city trip to Getafe next Sunday.
