Through the first four games of the 2025 NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers have compiled a 3-1 record. Coming out of their bye week, the team is set to face off against the Cleveland Browns at home in Week 6.
Aaron Rodgers and company have looked good offensively, although there have been a lot of rumors about the team possibly adding another wide receiver via a potential trade. Defensively, the Steelers have looked solid as well. They have playmaking ability defensively, which has been a huge help thus far.
With that being said, there is also a player on the roster who has not made the kind of impact that many had hoped to see.

That player is none other than tight end Pat Freiermuth
So far this season in four games, Freiermuth has caught just seven passes for 65 yards. After seeing him rack up 653 yards and seven touchdowns on 65 catches last season, his production has been disappointing.
Could Pittsburgh consider dangling him as a possible trade chip before the deadline? That is what one former NFL general manger has hinted at the Steelers doing.
As shared by Andrew Fillipponi on X, a former general manager provided an interesting quote about Freiermuth as a potential trade candidate and also offered two potential landing spots for him.
“I don’t know what’s going on with Freiermuth,” the GM said. “A team would definitely trade for him like the Commanders or Rams. I think the Steelers could get a 3rd or 4th for him.”
If the Steelers could get a third-round pick for Freiermuth, they should jump at the opportunity. Jonnu Smith can handle the tight end position this season. More draft capital would help Pittsburgh build towards the future while remaining just as competitive now.
Freiermuth, who is currently 26 years old, would likely have a vast trade market if he were made available. He’s a starting caliber tight end, which is a position that plenty of teams across the NFL would love to upgrade. Even a fourth-round pick might be worth it for the Steelers, although he does provided excellent depth in case of injury.
Only time will tell, but the start of the season has not been good for Freiermuth. Pittsburgh may opt to hold onto him, but naming him as a possible trade candidate makes a lot of sense.
