Vernon Lacy wasn’t about to give Roosevelt a chance.
Certainly not with the McLane High quarterback possessing a powerful arm like his.
Lacy passed for five touchdowns to lead The Bee’s 21st ranked Highlanders to a 42-0 victory over No. 25 Roosevelt at McLane Stadium in a North Yosemite League showdown on Thursday night.
“What a team win,” McLane coach Andrew Pancotti said. “It’s a team effort. It starts in the weight room all year long. They show up and they’re consistent and they bring the energy. I love it.”
In what could have been a competitive game, things turned one-sided quickly as McLane (7-0, 4-0) jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead behind Lacy touchdown passes of 60, 40 and 55 yards.
On the receiving end of Lacy’s deep touchdown passes were Demetrius Simon (two TDs), Julyen Scott, Dimareea Banks and Kamani Harris.
Roosevelt (6-1, 3-1) has the inside track of winning an outright NYL title with games remaining against Sanger West, Madera South and Hoover.
“I’m feeling excited,” Lacy said. “It was a good win. We just come and play. We don’t have anything to say about the (outside) noise. It was all about team effort.”
Firebebaugh dedicates to own star Josh Allen
It was celebration time in Firebaugh.
That is because the field was dedicated and named ‘Josh Allen Field’ after the former Eagles start paved his way through the community.
Prior to Friday’s game against Tranquillity, Allen’s family were in attendance as the school named the field after Allen.
It was a big gesture by the school who saw their own get drafted by the Bills in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Wyoming.
Prior to his arrival in Laramie, Allen played for Reedley College and starred there as well.
Allen couldn’t make it Friday nigh to Firebaugh because he is getting ready to face the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night.
