Dodgers fans have to tip their hat to NY Giants for disrespect towards Philly on TNF

This is the time of year when baseball sees some crossover with other sports and their fanbases. Fandoms tend to band together to support each other once the postseason starts, and then you have more niche situations like the Buffalo Bills openly rooting for the Toronto Blue Jays.

On Thursday, the Los Angeles Dodgers eliminated the Philadelphia Phillies thanks to one of the worst fielding blunders you are likely to see, and the New York Giants decided to take advantage of the situation.

The Giants were taking on the Phillies' cousins, the Philadelphia Eagles, on Thursday Night Football, and it was another disappointing night for Philly fans. Not only did the Giants wallop the Eagles on the same night that the Phillies were eliminated, but New York decided to rub salt in the wounds by displaying the final score of the Dodgers-Phillies game on the big screen at MetLife Stadium.

Dodgers fans will love the NY Giants trolling the Phillies and the city of Philadelphia

Given that there were definitely some Phillies fans trying to troll the Dodgers during the NLDS, it's nice to see the script flipped here. The simple nature of this troll adds to it's effectiveness. No "Let's go, Dodgers" chants egged on by the PA announcers. No video of Orion Kerkering's error shown...just a the final score displayed in the middle of an already miserable game for the Eagles.

There needs to be more pokes and prods in athletics, and it is particularly great when there is cross-over between sports. While you want want to be careful to not give teams too much bulletin board material, these are competitions after all. There needs to be more active rooting interests and yes, a little more trash talk.

There was certainly a world where this stunt the Giants pulled could have backfired in spectacular fashion if the Eagles had rallied. The Dodgers likely didn't pay much attention, as they have an NLCS matchup against either the Chicago Cubs or Milwaukee Brewers on their mind at the moment, but it does bring some levity to the moment before the best-of-seven series gets underway next week.
