Kelee Ringo defends his penalty that might have sealed his fate on Eagles bench

Kelee Ringo has been under a lot of pressure this year, especially with the scrutiny of the Eagles' cornerback position outside of Quinyon Mitchell.

Especially after Mitchell left the Eagles' 34-17 blowout loss to the New York Giants in Week 6 with an injury, Philly saw Ringo get "exposed." In particular, a controversial pass interference call resulted in a Giants touchdown in the fourth quarter, crushing any hope of a comeback.

How Ringo struggled in what could be his last shot at starting for Eagles

Ringo was frequently tested and targeted by Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart and failed to rise to the occasion when called upon. He was beaten several times by Giants receivers, including by practice squad elevation Lil'Jordan Humphrey, while also being penalized for the aforementioned pass interference call in the end zone that set the Giants up at the one-yard line.

Ringo was also penalized for an illegal contact against Wan'Dale Robinson, extending a Giants drive as well. Overall, it was a disastrous performance for Ringo, who, per Pro Football Focus, gave up three receptions for 69 yards and allowed a 116.7 passer rating in coverage, while getting called for the two penalties. He received a miserable 33.4 coverage grade and a 29.6 overall defensive grade in 38 snaps.

"Kelee Ringo on the PI call at the end: 'Not a fan — at all.' Says the ref told him he grabbed his inside arm, but he felt that the wideout was pushing off, too,"Brooks Kubena of The Athleticposted.

This is the third consecutive week that Ringo has been targeted and exposed across from Mitchell. At this point, the Eagles may be forced to have Cooper DeJean be the primary cornerback on the outside, rather than continuing his role as a nickel. At some point, Ringo was benched in favor of Adoree' Jackson, who continued to have issues making tackles in the Eagles' run defense.

While Eagles fans patiently wait for the status of Mitchell, it appears that Fangio will have to fall back to Jackson and RIngo in the meantime. With the Eagles' cornerbacks (outside of Mitchell) a liability, opposing offenses will continue to attack whoever is across from Mitchell, which has proven to be a successful option the last two weeks.
